ALPS were contracted by Stepnell to design, manufacture and install single bank louvres (1UL/SH) to surround the M&E plant on the roof. Due to it being an existing building, the entire louvre screen had to be self supported so the Big Foot system was chosen (also installed by ALPS).
The louvre system design was for an inner and an outer louvre enclosure. The 3 sided inner louvre enclosure included 2 single 1UL/SH louvre doors, surrounding the M&E plant. To achieve the necessary acoustic performance, as set in planning, ALPS Installed 1.5mm galvanised steel blanking panels to the rear of the louvre screen as well as installing the required secondary steelwork. On site the louvre screen was adapted with cut outs to fit around ductwork that needed to pass through.
The outer louvre screen consisted of 7 elevations of 1UL/SH. This entire system was was installed on to the Bigfoot, designed with ALPS to ensure that it met the support required for the windloads as well as fixing details. ALPS installation team first installed the Bigfoot system and returned to site for phase two, the installation of the single bank louvre screen.
New builds allow for every element to be designed for the building, yet it is always an exciting challenge when working with an existing building. The Bigfoot system is perfect where it is not possible to penetrate the roof. With the installation undertaken and managed by ALPS, the client's project was coordinated and installed within their programme.
